Whale shark citizen science tour

Meet the biggest fish in the world and help science

Become a shark scientist for a day and help to expand our knowledge about these magnificent animals

A day learning with gentle giants

Ever dreamed of becoming a real part of science, not just a spectator? This is your chance! We are collaborating with Whale Shark Mexico on a citizen science program to offer a truly unique and meaningful experience.

Every season, from November to April, whale sharks gather in La Paz area to feed (you can learn more about whale sharks here). For years, Whale Shark Mexico has been studying these gentle giants, collecting valuable data to better understand and protect the species.

On this tour, you´ll have the rare opportunity to encounter the magnificent whale shark, the biggest fish in the ocean, and take part in its scientific monitoring. We will join Whale Shark Mexico´s scientists in the field, helping gather real data and contributing directly to ongoing research and conservation efforts. The more we understand them, the better we can protect them, and you can be part of that mission!

What you'll do:

Photo-identification, record sex, behaviour & injuries, collect zooplankton samples; take fieldnotes alongside the science team.
